Florence-booking Uffizi time slots

I am trying to make reservations to visit the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. I am on the museum website (I think)www.uffizi.firenza.it. There are not slots available for two people to reserve on the days we will be there, except for at 4:30 pm. Is this possible? Do they still let others in at the door and only allow so many to be reserved? Does this mean all tourists arriving in Florence without reservations are out of luck?

Is 2 hours long enough in the Uffizi?t

two hours will work. The Uffizi is not that big. It's a little rushed, but not much.

Hi Cindy,

our only experience of the uffizi was at the end of october 2006 - we had reservations for 8.30 am and the non-reserved queue as already 2 hours long.

so it is quite possible that thses are indeed the only slots.
you might get lucky if you turned up on spec, but chances are you wouldn't.

2 hours should be fine for a first visit - like all these places, it's hard on the feet.

don't do too much walking [is this possible in Florence?] during that day before your reservations.

if you are interested in the accademia, you might have more luck getting in there without booking in advance - we were staying just round the corner, and when we walked past, it seemed to be pretty easy to get in there in the late pm and you only need an hour or so inside.

I'd go for the 4.30 slots if you really want to get in.

regards, ann

Cindywho,
From when I was there in late September 2007, they only take reservations in groups of about 20 per time in 30-40 minute intervals. They were also allowing in about the same number of walk-ins (20)about 20 minutes after each reserved group. We went on the chance we might get in and only stood in line for about an hour. We arrived late morning. Two hours will be plenty of time. We got in to see David at Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence this way as well. If your schedule is tight, you should reserve the times.

We also took a chance in Milan to see The Last Supper at the Santa Maria delle Grazie church. There too you need reservations months in advance, but it seems that tour guides buy up more than they need and then sell them back sometimes. We got lucky again and got a couple of tickets this way, same price for 2 hours later. There is an outdoor market not too far away and we were able to shop and eat while waiting, our two favourite activities!
