Florence airport ot rail station

Dropping off the car at Hertz at the Florence airport then going to the rail station for catch train to Rome. Could you advise on the distance we are looking at? Could we walk it (luggage with rollers) or should we take a cab? If yes for cab, how much would be average rate?
Thanks, Lisa

Are you talking about the distance from the airport to the train station? If so, it's several miles! Cabfare is around 15 euro.

Do you mean the Florence airport (Amerigo Vespucci) or the Pisa airport (Galileo Galilei)?

There is a bus service (SITA/ATAF) from Florence airport to the main train station in Florence (Santa Maria Novella); it takes about 20 minutes.

There is a train service from Pisa airport to Santa Maria Novella; it takes about 1 hour.

When i was in the Florence airport (not Pisa)Jan 2003, they were just putting up the electric wires on a new train line going right to the airport from Florence - havn't heard if this train line is in service but seems like it should be - is built on pillars the last mile to the airport. If running this would take you right to the Florence train station in about 20 minutes, quicker and cheaper than a cab perhaps! My current Thomas Cooks timetable however says that Ataf Volainbus 62 links the Florence airport to Florence's Santa Maria Novella train station every 30 minutes; distance = 7 km or about 4 miles. If you're going into Pisa's Galileo Gallelei airport, a much bigger airport with many more flights, it definitely has a direct train to Florence's train station.

The Hertz rental states Florence Airport. We are actually picking up in Pisa but dropping off in Florence. So I'm looking for the distance from Florence Airport to the Florence SMN to catch the Eurail.
Thanks, Lisa
