flights to spain during volcanic activity
I'm surprised to not see more forums regarding the volcanic activity and closure of European airports. Looks like flights are still occuring between US and Madrid? Anyone know why Spain has been exempted? Do you think it will still be in three days (our scheduled departure from JFK)? Any advice?

Depends on where the volcanic debris is blown by the wind. A list of airports and their status is posted at http://www.airlineindustryreview.com...es-and-status/

really the only thing you can do is wait and hope it doesn't affect your trip. well and pray if you're the praying sort. that's what I'm doing and my trip is still 4 weeks away! I hope you can take your trip as scheduled!
oh yea, I saw some discussion on this over at the tripadvisor Spain forum.

patiboo - I'm in the same boat re Rome. We are due to depart from JFK-Rome this coming Tuesday evening. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
(I hear rain would help disperse the ash... so please pray for European rain!~)
PS Seamus- thanks for the link.

Barcelona, Girona-Costa Brava, Reus, Sabadell, Asturias, Santander, Bilbao, San Sebastián, Vitoria, Pamplona, Logroño and Lleida are closed until 16:30 this afternoon.
I doubt they will reopen during this day, and they say that the volcanic cloud is moving down south, so ... if it is through, it could affect Barajas airport and the trasatlantic routes.
You can check it at www.aena.es
I have a flight for next weekend, and I have already been telling my friends that it looks as if I won´t be flying then ...
Bye, Cova

I heard that some flights resumed out of Spain this afternoon. Apparently Portugal is also OK.
Stranded at Radisson Blu Zurich Airport. Unfortunately, hotels in Europe are taking advantage of passengers. Radisson jacked their prices up to CHF 470 per night. I will never use this hotel again. Their reservations manager (~Baader) working today doesn't know customer service and needs to learn some lessons from hotels that put customers first. They only care about making money, but lost sight of repeat business.
