flights to London 6/07
Right now AA is showing JFK to Heathrow and Edinburgh back to JFK at $816. for next June. That's really not bad, is it? I know sometimes I see fantastic last minute deals but the "last minute" part scares me AND they're usually not multi-city. I'm going to hold my horses, though, if others here feel that much better deals usually pop up closer to travel dates... (I've never flown out of the USA before.)

It's not a horrible price for next June if it includes the flight from Heathrow to Edinburgh and then back to the US (or back to Heathrow and then the US). But it's also not a great price. You can probably do better by just buying a round-trip to Heathrow and flying to Edinburgh on a discount carrier (especially if you book far in advance, when the tickets are cheapest on discount carriers). I think it's a little early to get the best prices for travel next June, though some people are reporting some very good fares for May travel to Europe from the US.
To give you some perspective, I'd consider anything below $600 an excellent fare for a round-trip between JFK and London in June. I'm pretty certain you could do a round-trip to Edinburgh from Heathrow for less than $200 if you flew on Ryanair or EasyJet (or whichever cheap airline flies there), as long as you book far in advance.

That seems like a good price for me, but from Cleveland. I would think you would get something better than that from JFK, but what do I know. I've never paid less than $800 for a flight from Cleveland-Newark-Glasgow.
I've been tracking prices of flights for Cleveland to Edinburgh for June 07 since May of this year and for us it's going to be $950-1,000. So my norm of around $800 from Cleveland, has gone up.

Im asking because we are going to edinburgh next week.
We booked our tickets about a month and a half ago. We paid $480.00 each for direct round-trip flight from Newark - to Edinburgh. A few days after we bought the tickets dropped about $20.00 each. Now they are selling for $800.00, only one week before the flight.

Thanks, all!
Steviegene, you got a great price! My intent was to fly into London and out of Edinburgh, spending about a week in England and about a week in Scotland.
It does seems like flights almost anywhere take a leap up in mid-June! Darn having to work around a school schedule!

You really should consider what someone else posted, fly to London, and then take a different flight to Scotland. We took Easyjet from Aberdeen to London and back, and it was something ridiculous, like 30 pounds each way. I would think that from Newark to London you could get a much much better rate. I know Cleveland to London would be under $500.

I wouldn't recommend doing that, much easier (and possibly not much more expensive overall) to fly BA or BMI from Heathrow than traipse across half of Southern England to save a few dollars.
Whatever you end up doing it's better to end your trip near the airport you are leaving from - so if you are leaving from Edinburgh, do London first then go to Edinburgh

I don't think AA flies JFK-EDI non-stop. But CO does EWR-EDI. Checking fares for next June, an open jaw EWR-LGW, EDI-EWR is about $890 all-in.
Not the cheapest, and don't know how EWR compares to JFK for you, but non-stop both ways.

Hope this helps. I checked with kayak.com many times a day until I found a flight from EWR to EDI and From London (Gatwick) back to EWR. I got two tickets non-stop, July, 2007 for $885 each including all taxes and fees. It's cheaper to use JFK, but I hate the ride from central NJ out to JFK. I never know whether I'll make my flight even though I leave a ton of time. So, I may have paid a little more for the convenience and the non-stop flight. Helene
