Flights from London to Amsterdam

We will be needing to fly from London to Amsterdam this June, we are purchasing a Eurail pass for the trip, but were advised it best to fly, very cheap!, from our starting point in London to Amsterdam. Has anyone done this and from which London airport? We are staying by St. James park so we would want to fly from the closest airport, right? And which one would that be and do all the airports service the economical flights? Thanks so much for any and all input.

Hi Mom,

>we are purchasing a Eurail pass for the trip, ...

Before you do that, enter your itinerary at www.railsaver.com and click only if it saves money.

For cheap airfares see www.whichbudget.com

There's also the www.dutchflyer.co.uk train/ferry/train service

As for flying - before booking work out how much it will cost & how long it will take to get to the particular airport you want to use, doubly so if you intend travelling early / late in the day

From St. James park, get to Victoria train station and catch a train to gatwick.

From gatwick you can catch an easyjet flight to Amsterdam:

Hope this helps!

For cheap flights, your nearest option is Gatwick - 30 minutes by train from Victoria. But bear in mind that you need to be there a good two hours in advance, and allowing for baggage reclaim and the train into central Amsterdam, you're reckoning on around 5 hours to arrive at Amsterdam Centraal.

You could do it quicker via London City airport (30 minutes by tube and DLR): they have short check-in times because they're business-oriented, but that means their airlines don't do silly-cheap fares.

Waterloo for the Eurostar train is only a short bus or taxi ride away from St James's Park. Changing at Brussels, you can, depending on your connections and choice of train, be at Amsterdam Centraal in 6-7 hours.

Thanks so much, especially the London City Arirport info, Patrick, the fares were reasonable from there - jsut about the same as from EasyJet and we'd have to go back to Gatwick for the EJ- so you recommend the city airport and suggest it's closer, right?
