fiumicino airport

My travel agency insists we have plenty of time to connect in Rome from our Alitalia flight arriving at 8 am to connect to the 9:05 am flight to Venice. Can we make the connect? Will our luggage? Should we bring our carry-ons for a 9 day trip? Thanks.

Hi J,

That's a short connection.

For only 9 days, I wouldn't have any checked luggage going out.

I would bring a laundry bag in which to put dirty laundry and check that on the way home.

Souvenirs go in the carryon.

For a nine-day trip, you only need carryon. And your travel agency isn't the weather channel. How can it predict the plane will take off or land on time?

That said, a friend of mine just flew into Roma on Alitalia and had an hour layover and connected to another Alitalia flight, no problem. And she'd checked a bag.

Have you looked to see how many Alitalia flights are going to Venezia that day? If you miss it -- due to flight problems -- they'll just put you on the next one. I'd book the earlier flight rather than stick yourself with the later one. It's highly possible you'll make the first one.

Thanks for the input. They cancelled my flight and we are going to fly in and out of Rome. Train to Bologna, maybe Padua and Venice back to Rome via a stop in Orvieto.

Sounds like a better trip anyway!

Be sure to stick your head into Santa Maria della Vita in Bologna.
