Hi Wilk,
Lots of great advice above. Here is an additional strategy to consider. Limit your itinerary in a severe way, in order to take the transfer-day pressures off. A possible alternative in that regard: just do Rome & Venice. Period. The rest of those locations will await you two for next time. Worth considering.
I am done. The end.

{Amalfi Coast, Naples, Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre, Venice}
You need to trim the list, as you already realized. For me a logical 10 day introduction would be: Venice 3-4 days, Florence 2 days, Rome 4-5 days. Flying into Venice and out of Rome. Moving city to city by train.
But this is your trip, maybe your priority would be in and out of Rome with side trip to Naples and Amalfi coast. That could work in 10 days.
Or just Florence and Venice - 5 days each city.
What doesn't work is 6 major destinations in only 10 days

Yeah, as Jean & others have been implying: less is more. We all seem to learn that the hard way sometimes, what with places like Italy having so many different locations that attract the traveller.
I am done. The end.

Venice - fly in and stay 1.5 days + 1/2 day move to Florence 6 hours
Florence - 1 day + 1/2 day move to Cinque Terre 3 hours
Cinque Terre - 1 day + 1/2 day move to Amalfi Coast 8 hours
Amalfi Coast - 1 day + 1/2 day back track up to Naples 3 hours
Naples - 1 day + 1/2 day Naples to Rome 3 hours
Rome - 2 days, fly home
..What an itinerary could look like if you want to see all 6 places you mentioned in 10 days.

suze your 6 hrs Venice to fForence - does that include packing up time? Actual train time is bout 3.5 hrs but yes that train station to train station - hotel to hotel may be different - small hotels especially may be closed during day so tell them your arrival time. Seems all your times reflect that.
Like your itinerary except I'd do Cinque Terre as day rip from Florence - skipping all that packing and unpacking, etc. And may be hard t get one-mght stand in mobbed CT.

Just trying to show them what 10 days and 6 cities looks like. Was not meant as exact science or a final itinerary.
Trains depends exactly which train they are on for each segment what the exact timing of the ride will be, how close their hotel is to the train station, etc. etc. Obviously.
Point being they need to account for the "lost" half day each time they change places.

If you have 10 total days as in leave on the first and return on the 10th, you will have part of the second day which is arrival day, and 7 full days until you leave on the 10th. Subtract another Half of a day or more each time you move. Suggest you pick two destinations. Consider Venice and Rome or Florence and Rome for example

Yes another good point! We don't know if they have 10 days on the ground in Italy. Or if that's the total length than 1-2 days needs to be subtracted up front for getting to Europe and back.
If they can get a nonstop flight LAX to Rome would help a little bit.

The OP posted that they have just 10 days total >>We have 10 total days, so two of them are scratched for international travel.<<

I disagree about the non-stop from LAX to Rome part.
Those flights leave LAX in the evening and arrive Rome late in the next day. If time on the ground is important then getting into Rome earlier, for example via Chicago, would be better.
