First time in Austria

My family will be traveling from Munich to Budapest this summer and will have a few days in Austria. What are the “not to be missed” areas in Austria?

Really - a little more info would help. Who/how many are you? What are your interests? What is your budget?

Do you want museums? History? Castles? Pretty villages? Beautiful mountains? Hiking? Clog dancing? Visit a salt mine???

And how will you be traveling - driving I assume?

Salzburg. Graz? I agree that the mode of traveling is important to the answer to the question.

Best wishes,

Let me be the first on this thread to grip my coat lapels and pontificate. I think you should rent a car in Innsbruck and drive over the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse. Stay overnight in Heilgenblut, and enjoy Wienerschnitzel at the Hotel Post.

The logical route is down the Danube. Type Wilhering and you will get my trip report with photos that starts in Munich and goes to Vienna. After that our itineraries will diverge.
