Try this web site which helps you plan routes using bus or underground:

The route we used from Heathrow to the TL City Road was the tube (Piccadilly line) to Russell Square station. We then took a cab to the hotel which cost 12 pounds, including the tip. The reason we picked the Russell Square station is that there is just a short flight of steps, then a lift to street level which is helpful if you are schlepping luggage.

I'd definitely follow ckiskie's advice. If you can handle your luggage w/o problems, take the Piccadilly line to Russell Sq and hail a cab from there.

You won't have to change lines and will only have a few steps. Most other public transport options, will involve schlepps/transfers/long walks.

(If you can't handle the luggage, either: 1- pack lighter , or 2- book a car service which will cost more but be door-to-door)

Yes - they are called "black cabs" - but they aren't all black. Some have advertising on them or are more colorful. But they are the same type of vehicle - a cab w/ a yellow taxi sign on the roof. If the taxi sign is illuminated, the car is free and just wave your hand at the driver. If the sign is not illuminated, the cab is not available.

You'd have to walk to the tube station at LHR - which is a fair trek. Ride through to Russell sq. And then just up in a lift from the platform level at Russell Sq to the station level and a few steps up to the street level.

I stayed at the Travelodge City Road last April for 9 nights. You can email me at [email protected] if you have questions.
