finalizing plans

I hope to finalize our plans and make flight reservations tonight. Since we have changed our mode of transportation I have changed our itinerary. I think I will put Amsterdam at the end of our trip to avoid Kings Day in Amsterdam. Then we will not reach Amsterdam till May 5th. I definitely want to visit Keukenhof Gardens and they are only open till May 13. I am thinking I'd rather go earlier, seems as though they may be prettier, is this correct??So with this said how can we reach Keukenhof from Delft via train or bus travel? Another option is we will probably rent a car when we leave Delft and drive north towards Enkhuizen so we could possibly visit the gardens then but that is Kings Day and I do not know how traffic will be. I will appreciate your help so that I can finalize dates.
Kind regards,

If you go to rome2rio.com you see that you take both the train and bus to get there.

King's Day is a great day to be in a large city like Amsterdam where a party-like atmosphere takes over the whole city with something for everyone.

I would drive Delft to Keukenhof and then thru flower fields to Haarlem and north.

King's day in Amsterdam is massive, but choose wisely as on the day itself it will be difficult to get into or out of the city, either by car or public transport. But outside of Amsterdam everything is possibly more quiet, because it's a day off and traffic will be light.

Tulips stay up for a few days, then they're snipped off to give the bulbs more chance to develop. So the window of opportunity is small.

Keukenhof is beautiful at any time until it closes: the manage the flowers and plants so they're always in peak condition for viewing.

All public transport in the Netherlands can be found on this website.
https://9292.nl/en it gives you walking times and fares.
Do not use anything else!
do not forget you will need an OV-chipkaart.

I think I will put Amsterdam at the end of our trip to avoid Kings Day in Amsterdam.>

Again King's Day - well was then Queen's Day - was one of my all-time favorite festive events in decades of European travels - boats with bands floating on canals -all kinds of music - a giant flea market where anyone can stake out a place anywhere and sell what they want. The night before was great seeing all those folks stake out the better places to sell their stuff -the huge outdoor concert being set-up at Museumplein (rows of huge beer tanker trucks ready for the next day's beer-guzzling crowd.)

Reconsider this - getting into Amsterdam or out that day is yes problematic as trains are packed with folks from all over - younger adults carrying cases of Heineken or Amstel... but not a drunken feast in most places.

Tremendous IMO.

Okay so now I have to ask what is an OV-chipkaart?? It looks like an app that I possibly pay for trains etc. we don't usually turn on our phone.
As for King's Day I think 10 years ago I would have loved it but probably will pass.

you can buy them at Schiphol. If you know a bit more about how you want to travel, renting cars vs public transport, we can advise.

It's also still possible to buy "paper" tickets from machines point to point, and depending on how you put your itinerary together, that might work out cheaper. For instance, if you stay in Amsterdam and visit a lot of sites by tram, I would advise a day pass, or multi day pass, not ov chipkaart.

And to answer PalenQ: I think Keukenhof may well be more quiet that day.

and @tidy: koningsdag in small towns can be very lovely and touching.
