Finalizing Itinerary - Venice or Milan before Paris?
I'm trying to finalize my trip for this summer. My husband and I are going on a cruise (begins & ends in Venice). We plan on going to Paris afterwards for a couple of days (we'll be off the ship by 8 am). Should we take the overnight train to Paris from Venice (sightsee there all day)? or take the train for a day trip to Milan then overnight to Paris? or see Lake Como then overnight to Paris? or just fly from Venice to Paris? Where could we leave our luggage while sightseeing in Milan or Venice? Thank you in advance for any advice!

I'd stay in Venice.
I believe there is a left luggage at the S. Lucia train station (but check on that I am not certain).
Then I would take an overnight train (reserve a private cabin) to Paris, because I had a great time doing that and it is much more convenient than getting back to the airport. Be sure to hit a grocery store and pack a nice picnic dinner for the train ride.
Oops, thinking back we had to catch an afternoon train from Venice that went thru Milan, then transfered there to the overnight sleeper train.

It has been about five years but I stored luggage at the Venice train station while sightseeing and then bought exellent sandwiches in the train station before catching the train out. I would skip Milan (if you do have time there spend it going up to Lake Como or lake Maggiore; the scenery is spectacular, the roadside hookers encamped along the highway add a bit of novelty). Venice is a great place to spend a day and I would give it first choice.

I've not been to Venice yet (going next month) but did spend a weekend in Milan (when I was living in Geneva). Except for La Scala (opera house), the cemetery (don't ask), and the Last Supper (forgot what it's *really* called) there's nothing much to see or do...even the shopping was nothing special compared to New York, Chicago, Toronto, Atlanta, or Bangkok. If anything...I'd stop in Geneva (it's on the way to Paris).
