Fiesole for sunset?

Is the view of Florence from Fiesole something we should try to do at sunset? If so, does anyone know if you can just have a drink at Villa San Michele and enjoy the view?

We do not want to have dinner at VSM, but would like to spend the afternoon/early evening enjoying the view from Fiesole.

Any suggestions?

There is a restaurant in the Fiesole piazza which overlooks Florence, it is right next to the bus stop, take No 7 bus from the train station or San Marco square. Sorry do not know the name but I had an enjoyable lunch there last november.

I don't know personally about having just a drink at VSM, but I'm sure it's possible.

There is also a nice viewpoint from which you can enjoy the view and sunset over Florence. It has shade trees and benches, so you could bring along your own wine, cheese, picnic items, etc. Just another option.

The viewpoint is up the steep via San Francisco, near the main piazza. Just ask anyone which way to get to it. Fiesole is a wonderful break from the business of Florence and there are several cafes and restaurants lining the main piazza, as well.

I think this is a perfect suggestion - a little before dinner picnic at this viewpoint sounds wonderful.

Thanks everyone!
