Fgn currency and/or credit card

Traveling to Germany and Iceland mid-Sept. Is it best to have currency for both countries or can one use Visa, Mastercard and/or American Express? We notice when traveling in Canada the exchange rate is better using a credit card. Any advice and/or suggestions? Thank you!

If you have access to an ATM card, use that. You can get cash from most machines throughout Europe, and the rate is excellent. (Check with your bank regarding ATM fees; my credit union does not charge fees, so the cash had no service fees.) YOu will need some cash, but use credit cards as much as you can. (Credit card companies will charge you a cash advance fee if you use your credit card in an ATM machine to get cash. Again, an ATM card is much better.)

Have fun!
Deborah
