Festival du Citron (Lemon Festival), Menton

Has anyone been to this? I almost went a few years ago then decided going to the sea when I couldn't swim wasn't worth it. Now I'm considering it again, going Feb 22-26 with two nights Menton, 1 night Monte Carlo (last time I didn't get to the Casino or Café de Paris, just want a night at a fab hotel) and one or two nights Nice (with size trip to Ventmiglia for the market on Fri and perhaps Eze or other towns along the coast).

What was the weather like? No I dont' expect to swim but sun would be nice. No idea what kind of clothes to take.

(I was in Cannes and Nice in May 2014 with trips to Grasse and St Paul de Vence and one evening in Monaco).

Good for you. Have always wanted to go to lemon festival. We were in Menton in November several years ago and really enjoyed ourselves. Very quiet (will be much more lively in Feb. though) and nice cool temps. Would do it again. Enjoy.

La Fete du Citron is a nice local festival. Don't miss it. May be you will also be interested in the Flower Parade at the Carnival of Nice

Weather is unpredictable for February. When I was there the last time, it was sunny and rather warm (did some hikes in the La Turbie - Gorbio - Sant'Agnese - Castellaro area).
But everything is possible!

I have been to it, but admittedly 45 years ago when I was 20. Back then, I found the Fete kind of boring, but Menton back then (and still today) is a town of substantial retirees. For a 20 year old, the whole town was a bit of a bore. But we had a friend from high school in L.A. whose dad had a yacht in the harbor, so we had a free place to stay . . . .

The reason I was in the area in the first place, was to go to the Festival of Nice, which was (and remains) a blast, whatever the weather.

To combine the two would be the most fun, and I would encourage you to go to the Fete du Citron, but also to Nice's Carnaval.

My recollection (memory and photographs) was that we had one day when it pissed with rain . . . a real drencher . . . and the other days it was very warm and sunny.

Hi Vicky, DH and I were there in March 2010 for four days, so I hope this info isn't too old.

TR: https://www.fodors.com/comminunity/e...n-and-lyon.cfm [Ventimiglia info on March 30]

The remnants of the Festival were about, but we thought it looked pretty neat. Here's a quote from my TR notes: "Remnants of lemon-studded coliseum remains in view." If a coliseum was typical, the exhibits must be large.

Our hotel offered van trips (based on enough interest)--and we managed one to Ventimiglia. I was happy someone else was driving as that particular market day had scads of traffic. The van parked on the opposite side of a canal (river?) that had a footbridge to the sale--better parking. That being said, I think our hotel was on the opposite side of the "action" in Menton. Pretty downtown area. We were cold.

Please report back--I liked the vibe there. If you look at my photos, go to the albums and see 'Mention and Lyon'.

WE went about 15 years ago, and it didn't do a thing for us. I certainly wouldn't schedule a trip specifically around it.
