Ferry Sicily to Calabria

Hello all...we will be driving from Catania to Calabria...anyone taken the ferry and if so, do you book this in advance? We are going second week in April. Does it run frequently? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

The main route is from Messina to Villa San Giovanni. Ferries are owned by the railways and by private companies. Caronte & Tourist currently have departures every 40 minutes during the daytime:

I road that ferry from messina to Reggio Calabria back in 1999 there was a line but i don't remember booking in advance. I do remeber a beautiful day a cup of cappucino as i crossed though. There is a museum in Reggio Calbria with a museum with the 2 bronze stautes that signaled the beginning of the Bronze age as well as other artifacts. Don' forget to check out Taromina before leaving Sicily.

I hesitate to book in advance in case of flight delays (flying from Rome to Catania), etc. I'll be arriving on Easter Sunday for the Ferry so unsure if that's a good thing or a bad thing in terms of crowds. Thanks very much.

I am a little nervous because I can't seem to read the schedule. I'm nervous because we are traveling on a Sunday, Easter Sunday...will they have limited ferries on that day???

I wouldn't worry. Lots of people and vehicles go back and forth each day. I don't see the schedule being different on Easter Sunday. Besides Caronte & Tourist, there's also Bluvia (same company as Trenitalia) with car ferries between Messina and Villa San Giovanni.
