Ferry service from Cinque Terre to Rome?

I just read about the option of hydrofoil arrival from Naples to Positano and we are hoping we can do that option in Oct 2005. Is there the same option from C.T. to Rome? It's a LONG 5 hr train ride and we're boaters so this would be fun-but is it costly?

I don;t recall any - and haven't been able to find any info - other than one-day boat tours that go from Genoa. Or the local boat services.

Perhaps someone else there in the last year or two knows of something.

Thx for a quick response nytraveler. I should just contact the hotel in Monterosso we're staying at, eh?! They should know.

Hi Katerbug, there was, and I think still is, ferry service from CT to Genoa but I have never heard of ferry service from CT to Rome. Probably the only way you could do this is to hire a private boat which I am sure would be a bit expensive. Best wishes.

There is no ferry from the Cinque Terre to Roma. A hydrofoil travels at less than 40 mph even in calm seas, so the journey would take a lot longer than the train journey. In my opinion, a hydrofoil is not fun - unless you enjoy being bounced up and down in a stuffy saloon. Some fast craft have more open deck space but a long journey becomes very boring. The train follows the coast for much of the way so the scenery is much better.
