February Weather

Doing Ireland in late February (off season great rates.) What can I expect weather-wise? Alos any comments about availability of good music understanding it's the off-season. Plans are a southwest start and finish in Dublin. No firm itinerary.

Best wishes,

Not a bad time really. The days are getting longer and witha bit of luck a bit warmer.
its a good time for Irish music. Will you be here for St.Patricks week?
Have alook at www.goireland.ie and it may help you along the way.

ggroppi,
You mention great rates in February. I've been getting quotes from B&B's in Galway, Doolin, Dingle & Bunratty. Most are saying $50 per person a night. Do you have anything you can share that's better? Thanks!

Well - my guess is the rates are quoted in €, not in $. And do you mean US$, Can$, Aus$ or some other $? So what sorts of rates are you actually finding?

I personally think €35-€45 (approx US$40-US$55) or thereabouts is pretty darn good considering it includes a full cooked breakfast.

Sunrise at 8 a.m appox
Sunset at 15.30 appox.
Average temp 6 C 43F
Maximum 11C 52F
Min -3C 27F
A risk of snow showers or rain with frosty nights which could make driving dangerous in shaded areas.

I went to Ireland on Feb. 28 in 2004. We had a great week. We had only one hour of rain the whole week (I'm sure we lucked out), lots and lots of total sunshine, and temps in the 40s, maybe even 50s. Early mornings were perhaps high 20s and 30s. But with a warm jacket it was perfect. There were literally no tourists and prices for lodging were unbelievably low. It didn't get dark till past 6. I would definitely go back at that time of year again. When we were at Giant's Causeway, we had the place entirely to ourselves--it was great!!
