tuscan, me too, so very "civilized" was my thought. Course if I continue my role as caring "Big Sister" I'll be at FCO much earlier than I originally planned. The things you do for family
Thanks Sher, I hope we can get all that entered online before we get to FCO. Sounds like you might be due for a return to Rome if it's been ages!! Deborah

hi Deborah-Ann,
I'd like to say that our recent experience coming through FCO would help, but as we were on an easyjet inter-europe flight it's of minumum use, EXCEPT that the main delays were with security, and that is NOT within the perview of your airline.
given that some of you are travelling direct to the US, I would definitely err on the side of caution.
on the plus side, the shops etc. airside at FCO are some of the best I've seen. unfortunately, we were rushing to get to our gate [several miles away from check-in] and didn't have time to stop and enjoy. so save some euros and console yourselve with some retain therapy if you have time to spare.
have a wonderful time,
regards, ann

Ann, thank you for your comments. I was just reading your trip report. Like many others, I'm looking forward to hearing about your dining experiences.
My nieces are 20 and 21, very close to your son's age. I'm so excited to be seeing Rome through their eyes. Deborah

DA - oh, brill. They will LOVE it. my DD, now 22, was green with jealousy when we said that we were going back at a time that she couldn't come with us.
if you are staying near the pantheon, you will be nearer the main shopping area than we were so you will have many shops at your disposal. Nevertheless, you and perhaps ever more your nieces, might enjoy a few hours along the via dei governi vecchi, where every shop is crammed full with chic designer gear, some of it even affordable! indeed, one of the joys of Rome is that there ae so many non-chain shops and businesses.
as for sights, they both loved their first view of the colosseum, of course, but also the museums of the capitoline were a hit, and DD was very taken by the mummies in the Vatican Museum. and they couldn't fail to enjoy climbing to the top of st. peter's dome.
the other thing that my kids enjoyed, especially DS, was going out and geting our breakfast every morning from the cafe across the street. he wasn't able to do that this time as there wasn't really anywhere quite like that close enough to our apartment, but he still enjoyed trying out his very rudimentary italian. being girls, I'm sure the italian waiters wil respond to any italian they can muster!
