Our family will be going to Cornwall next Spring. What was your best memory or your favorite place to visit? Was there anything about the movie "Rebecca" in the area? How about Rosamonde Pilcher...doesn't she have a home there? <BR>Thanking you in advance, <BR>Craig

Loved Cornwall, have been there once with my husband when we rented a self-catering cottage in Tintagel, and once by myself for a month in Crackington Haven, also in a small cottage by the sea. Don't know of any reference to Rebecca there, or Pilcher, although I'm sure there would be if you checked with tourist offices, but you can still see Du Maurier's Jamaica Inn on the Bodmin Moor. Don't go on a weekend there are tons of tourists - like you and me - we went during the week and there were lots of locals and lots of snuggly corners to have a pint in. Some of my favourites in Cornwall are: Lanhydrock, which is a National Trust estate that really has a certain Victorian flavour to it; St. Michael's Mount, just outside Penzance. You either walk across when the tide is out or take a small boat (we've done both and the walk is far less dramatic). The climb to the house is a killer for some (those of us who are out of shape) but the house is magical and the views from every corner are unbelievable. Tintagel gets beat up a bit because of all the tour buses, but we stayed there and saw it after hours and the cliff walks, as the sun is setting/rising are spectacular. Also some also don't like Land's End because of the development, but we just walk beyond it and wander up and down the cliffs. We've never been to the Scilly Isles, which you can reach fr. Penzance either by helicopter or ferry, but many ppl have recommended to us. Also, if you have a chance on the way to Cornwall stop at the Spread Eagle Inn overnight at Mere, cozy, odd little inn just on the edge of Stourhead Gardens, another National Trust property. See the earlier post on Cornwall for my reply but another out of the way place we thoroughly enjoyed was Restormel Castle, an old Norman castle ruins in the village of Lostwithiel. If you go, try to stay in the B&B at the entrance to the castle.

Has to be Newquay, for the simple reason I met my husband there 28 years ago(who says holiday romances don't last??),I guess you would find the place rather too touristy today so other than that I would say any of the National Trust properties or gardens in this lovely county.

I love all of Cornwall, but my favorite places are Clovelly and Tintagel.
