Favorite city in Europe?

I've traveled around parts of Europe over the last 10 years, but most of that was as a student. I'm anxious to travel outside of my usual destinations. So, I'm curious to know other's favorite cities and what's so wonderful about that city.

Copenhagen, Denmark. It's charming, clean, safe, historical and the Danish people and the food are wonderful! Americans tend to overlook this great little country!

mnapoli - I just saw your comment and was very surprised. I love Copenhagen . . . I've spent a couple of years there in the last 10 years and I feel the same way. But I'm not sure why. Considering the city itself, once you're outside the a mile radius of the Radhuspladsen there's not really much to see.

I really like north Zealand because of the castles (Kronborg, Frederiksburg, and Fredensburg) and the Cathedral in Roskilde, the old parts of Dragor south of Copenhagen, the town center of Koge, Dyrhavn/Bakken, the Danish Riviera . . .

Perhaps it's a percentage thing. There are some spectacular sights in other cities (London, Rome, Paris) but square mile for square mile, I think there's more of Copenhagen that's interesting to see than any other city.

Istanbul -- so old, so different, so warm, so faintly mysterious.

I may get some incredulous responses, but I really loved Naples. Rome is a close second. Wurzburg, Germany and Venice tie for 3rd.

We've traveled quite a bit around Europe and so far my favorite city has been Rome. I just love the ancient history, culture and lively atmosphere of the city. Paris and Vienna would probably tie for second.

Rome is, in my opinion, head and shoulders above the rest. I never tire of Rome.

Why? I like the history, the architecture, the vitality. (I should mention I like Mexico City, too. Less "beautiful" than Rome, but, once you get used to it, very interesting in strange, parallel ways.)

Venice. A unique world treasure.

Close is Rome--it just has so much from so many different periods of history.

Hi
It's difficult to say just one. It's usually the last trip. I have several favorites, in no particular order. Budapest, still old world but changing.
Berlin, a comfortable feeling despite its history and destruction. Rome, just Rome.

I adore just about any city in Switzerland and the country is so small, it feels like one could see everything in a week. It's all clean, punctual and picturesque. Now that I've been to Italy, I also would say a tie for me between Rome and Florence, both because of my degree in ancient history to Renaissance. They're like open-air museums!

I love Denmark but surprisingly (to me) Stockholm blew me away. (And my wife is of Danish lineage..!)
Prague, Dubrovnik, and yes Rome are all favorites.

I love the Dingle Peninsula of Ireland (I realize it's not a big city but Dingle and the surround are awesome).

I also really enjoyed Venice and Rome.

Saint Petersburg for its romance and charm.

Moscow for the practicality- and history.

It is very difficult for me to make a clasification, I like many european cities.
However, the first is PARIS.

I like also London, Rome, Wien, Salzburg, Madrid, Barcelona, Budapest, Berlin, Venice, Florence, Lisbon, Prague, Brussels,Amsterdam, St. Petersburg, Copenhagen, Stockholm...but Paris is the most beautiful IMHO.

I do not like the cities in Switzerland, except Lucern.
