I just saw the same article. It also mentioned that the usual sale on airfares around Easter did not happen. As the author said, you'd better sit down to believe the fares to Europe from early June on through Sept.

Not to worry...when would-be travelers decide not to fly to Europe this summer, and the seats are empty, the prices will come down.

An article I read recently mentioned "pent-up demand" for trips to Europe. People put them off after 9/11, and then put them off during the Iraq war. Finally they aren't willing to put them off any longer. By all accounts these expensive tickets are being purchased by someone.

Betsey, the travelers coming from Europe to take advantage of the weak dollar may take those seats.
