Exit Code for Italy
Someone in Italy has asked me for my cell phone number. I would like to be able to tell them what the "exit" code is for their Italian phone, which should preceed my cell phone number. This individual does not make international calls, and is in the dark as I am.
I've checked on the Internet, but I'm not fully convinced I have the right information. This is what I've found out: Exit Code for an Italian phone is 00. The country code is 39. Therefore, the Italian resident would have to dial 00-39 before my area code and local phone number.
We want to be able to get in touch with each other when we are traveling in Italy.
Can anyone verify if this is correct?
I'm all set on my end with calling Italy.

DO you have an Italian phone number? If so they can just call that. If you have a US number then they need to dial 00 1 city area code and number.
You can see all the combinations here: www.countrycodes.com/ in case you are from somewhere other than the US.

If they are calling you from a different country, then they would dial 00 (... or just the + key), then your country code, followed by the number. This post has some examples that may also help.

I live in the U.S. and have a U.S. cell phone. rineurope, Today I just found out where and what that key is on my phone with the + sign.
Got it...my Italian friend would enter 00-1-my area code and my local phone number.
Thank you, I didn't want to give out incorrect information.

39 is the code for calls TO Italy, not from it
As for finding what you need Googling "international dialing codes" generally brings back the right result - some even offer drop down menus and build the number up for you.
For example - http://www.countrycallingcodes.com/
But if you are dialling home on a mobile phone you generall just use the "+" key followed by the home number.
