We stayed around the corner from the Exedra at the Mondial. We visited the Exedra and it is a beautifully remodelled hotel. Have not stayed at either hotel but, I hear great things about the de Russie also. When we return to Rome we will stay at the Exedra.
I think that the real issue is in which neighborhood you want to stay in.

I did a hotel report on Boscolo Exedra. If you search my name, you'll find it. It was a great hotel! We stayed at one of de Russie's sister hotels in Florence - the Savoy. That was amazing and so I imagine that the de Russie would be fantastic as well. Seriously think you can't go wrong with either one.
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Only went for dinner at De Russie, and that was fabulous, sitting in the garden on a warm September evening. Beautiful hotel, but very expensive. For my next trip I will be staying at Inn at Spanish Steps (Small Luxury Hotels); their suites are less than a standard at De Russie. But for a honeymoon you may want to splash out on the best!

I considered both hotels for our trip in November and decided on the de Ruisse. I think you need to consider the following factors:
1. Price: De Ruise will cost at least $200 more than the Exedra for a comparable size room.
2. Location: The de Ruisse is centrally located whereas the Exedra is a bit further away and closer to the train station. While this does not bother some, it was an important factor for me.
3. Ambiance: While both hotels feature a contemporary design theme, I think that they are very different with respect to overall ambiance. The de Ruisse is a haven in the center of Rome with its inner garden set against the pinico hill whereas the Exedra appears to have more active public spaces that appeal to those that prefer the "Ian Schrager" model (albeit with better service at the Exedra). Furthermore, since the Exedra is located on a very busy square, ceratin rooms are prone to excess street noise.
