Evening things to do in London
We will be traveling to London in June and plan on doing a lot of sightseeing during the morning and afternoon hours. If we don't plan on going to a show, any suggestions on what to do during the evening hours (5pm - 10 pm), like any certain areas to shop where the stores stay open later or any other ideas. If we do see a show, what are your recommendations? Thanks!

1. Open Air Theatre in Regents Park - cool shakesphere with a modern bent.<BR>http://www.open-air-theatre.org.uk/<BR><BR>2. Early evening cocktails at the Ritz Hotel, Piccidilly.<BR>*Walk down Piccidilly check out the side streets and shops.<BR>* Carrying on walking around around Soho area then have a lively Italian dinner at Topo Gigio in Bewer Street.<BR><BR>3. Pick a great London Walk! www.walks.com<BR><BR>4. Hang out in Covent Garden - nice and vibrant at night! Not sure of a good restaurant round there.<BR><BR>6. Go to an evening concert at St Martin In the Field (Charing X area) after having an evening snack in the Crypt. E.g. Vivaldi - Four Seasons by Candlelight 7:30pm - Saturday 8 June 2002 (Even if you are not into classical music it's an amazing experience to hear popular classics in a church envirnoment).<BR>http://www.stmartin-in-the-fields.org/<BR><BR>7. Take a walk around the National Gallery (Trafalger Square area). Place is open until 9pm on Wednesday. I am ashamed to say I was in my 30's before I saw this place - to see such work up close is a amazing!!! http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/default.htm<BR>* Afterwards there is a pub across the street I think it called the The Chandos<BR><BR>8. Take a narrow boat along regents canal - lots of kids do it - but it's quite novel for adults too. Last boat leaves 5pm.<BR>http://www.camdenlockmarket.com/57.html<BR><BR>9. Take an evening out at the George Inn. George Inn 77 Borough High Street, Southwark, SE1 - London Bridge. The only remaining galleried inn in London, famous as a coaching inn. Actually, I think it's in one of the walks pub tours.<BR>http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/html/food/pubs/top_direct.html<BR><BR>Heaps more to do.. can't think of any more at the moment..<BR><BR>Check out www.thisislondon.co.uk and go to the tourist bit.<BR><BR>Also - www.timeout.com<BR><BR>Have fun!

Just walking around is fun. The major dept. stores on Oxford St. all stay open late on Thurs. nights also - it can get crowded, but it's fun. The London Eye at night is different, we just went at sunset on our last trip and it was very very nice. Take a walk along the Thames on the southbank - Butler's Wharf area and eat at one of the cafe's along the river .. very pleasant. Since it stays light so late anyway there are lots of things you can do later in the day/evening.
