European Stopover, 3-4 Days in December

The majority of flights between the United States and Morocco require a connection somewhere in Europe. While I have visited most of the major European cities at some point, I have never gone to Europe in early December. I am considering 3-4 days somewhere in Europe either going to or coming back from Morocco.

Where in Europe would you visit during that time of year? I am looking for folks who've travelled to or lived in Europe in winter to share their experiences, ideas, suggestions, etc.

Thank you.

Unless you're into winter sports then stick to a major city - which will have the most going on indoors. I would go for London or Paris - which presumably would have a significant number of flights.

I've always wanted to go to a Christmas market & have never made it. So I would definitely go to a German town with a good Christmas market (Germany's not the only place for Christmas markets, but I think they are supposedly the best/oldest). I can't advise much further, not having made it to one yet, but here's a website with some practical information and descriptions that might whet your appetite.

Thanks for the suggestions. I really appreciate your ideas and enjoy reading them. It is helpful in getting me to think about my options and the range of possibilities. I would especially like to hear about experiences that you had.

We spent four days in Dublin last December and it was quite interesting, if cold. Almost any city can be fun in winter, though, especially if you are fond of Xmas decorations.

We have spent two periods, each of a couple of months, in Venice in December / January.

I wrote a bit about it, and you'd find it here:

We liked Venice in Winter!
