Eurail pass for seven days?

We are spending a week in Copenhagen with day trips to nearby destinations (Roskilde, Dragor, maybe Ribe, Kristianstad, Lund, Helsingborg). Do we need a Eurail pass? If so, should we get one that specifies where and when we travel? We may change our mind and decide to forgo a daytrip or do one place instead on another.

Hi beth,

For short trips, railpasses are rarely worthwhile.

Go to www.railsaver.com and enter your itineraryfor 2 travelers.

Be sure to click on "only if it saves me money".

PS

I suggest a daytrip to the frederiksborg castle.

If all of these destinations are within Denmark then if you need a pass at all it would be one which only covers Denmark and not a 17-country Eurail Pass.

I second the idea of going to the www.railpass.com or railsaver.com website and inputting your proposed itinerary to see if a pass would be economical or not.

I assume you might also use if for your arrival in and departure from Denmark assuming you are flying into and out of Copenhagen (there is a direct rail link to downtown from the airport at Kastrop).

Passes can also provide a certain amount of convenience from having to buy point to point tickets and also provide some flexibility if you decide to take a spur of the moment trip...all that "convenience" is sometimes hard to put a price on.

IF a pass is right for you then you might consider buying it once you arrive (if it is a single country pass).

I apologize as there apparently is not a pass that covers Denmark exclusively however you might find out more if you go to a Danish Railways website

www.rejseplanen.dk may work for you.

Have a great trip.

For short journeys like these, you certainly don't need a rail pass. Most of these places can be reached by frequent commuter trains. For Helsingborg, it's easiest to take the train to Helsingør (which is also worth visiting) then a ferry. For train schedules, try www.dsb.dk or www.bahn.de.
