Hopscotch, you are a little opinionated i am guessing..However, for a first time visitor with only a few hours, a canal boat cruise is a good option..I have been to Amsterdam several times throughout the years..We barely ever take a canal boat cruise but on the rare occasion that we do, we always enjoy it..Boom Chicago has private tours where you get in these small boats and cruise around..It is literally a hoot!! Although there is nothing wrong with your suggestions, it is a bit much for only a few hours visit..

Redlou, you wrote you'll be there "in a couple of weeks", leaving us guessing at the exact date. Therefore, just to make sure... the trains in the Netherlands won't be running on June 17, due to a strike. If you are on another day, trains usually are reliable (during rush hours they can be crowded though). Hoewever, "reliable" means: "no more than 10 minutes delay" to the Dutch railways. Also note that, depending on the time of arrival, customs can be really slow... just 2 hours to get out of the airport and later to check back in seems somewhat optimistic to me. Just my $0.02!
