English Garden

Last year we went to the English Garden. We got directions from our hotel.I don't know if we just didn't get the best directions or it's just not easy to get to.We took the U Bahn, got out at the stop recommended, but still had to walk a long ways to the entrance of the Garden. We are going back to Munich for a few days next week before we head to Italy. Any help with an easy way of getting to the English Garden would be appreciated!

Where in Munich will you be staying?

The Southern edge can be reached with tram 17. The stop "Nationalmuseum / Haus der Kunst" is right on the border of the park.
Tram 17 goes from west to east through Munich, and calls at Central Station, Karlsplatz/Stachus, Sendlinger Tor (those only the major stops).

There is also bus #100 going from Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) to Munich East station. The stops for the Southern edge of the park would be "Königinstrasse" or the aforementioned "Nationalmuseum / Haus der Kunst".

The good and the bad of Englisher Garten is its size. It is easy to get to the border of the park from a lot of different angles. Now the question is where you want to go within the EG. If you are headed for the Chinese Tower be sure to ask for the best stop for that part of the park or you may have a nice long walk in the park.

We will be staying near the train station. Last year we went near the Chinese tower area, that seemed to be the main gathering area.I think we were told to get off near the University last time.

If you go on a warm sunny day there will literally be nudists laying all over the park, even right by the walkways

Ok Pal, maybe a long walk in the park is not such a bad thing.

I doubt you will see many naked people in the park in March - and even if you did, it would be mostly naked old guys - yech!

The U6 stop at Universitat gets you close to the Chinese Tower. Hop on the bus to get even closer.

While you there visit a great beer garden, Seehaus. Next to the Kleinhesselöhe See in the English Garden.
Closest U-Bahn station: Münchner Freiheit U3/6 - East Schwabing, short walk through the English Garden
Bus Nr. 144 from Dietlindenstraße (U-Bahn Münchner Freiheit) to Osterwaldstraße
