I'm looking to book a car one way from stansted to sheffield, and EVERY company I've researched does charge a one-way charge.
I wonder if the difference is that you book on the .com sites, and I'm looking on the .co.uk sites ? Do US deals charge more but include more, I wonder ?

Chris: Not in my experience. I am an American who lived in the UK for several years. I have rented cars mostly from the States but also a few times when I lived there and my car was being serviced or I needed a larger vehicle.
I have found pre-booking from the States will save quite a bit. Sometimes as much as 40%. Usually more in the 20-25% range. And there are almost never any drop off charges.
Waiting to book once one is in the UK is almost always more expensive.
