Edinburgh to St Andrew’s by Uber

Hello - hope some of you can help us. We are wondering if it’s fairly easy to secure an Uber between Edinburgh and St. Andrews for a day trip?
if not, open to some economical suggestions that don’t involve trains. Thank you

We used Uber while in Edinburgh but not to go to St Andrews. I would think you could get an estimate by putting in your destination and see how much it would cost you.

We opted for a tour with Rabbies to St Andrews as a day trip. Enjoyed it very much.

May I ask why not trains? It is an easy and cheap train ride from central Edinburgh to Leuchars then a 5 mile cab ride to St Andrews.

Central Edinburgh to St Andrews is more than 50 miles so uber round trip would cost a fortune.

I took the train from Edinburgh to Leuchars and caught an easy taxi ride into town.

Though we use Uber, we would do the train/taxi again. Other option just booking transfers with an online car service--at least worth checking prices. As mentioned above a day tour might be a good option.

Patandhank - Thank you. I’ve definitely done that. But when it says ‘limited availability’, I go into a panic.

Ann, thank you. I’m leaning towards doing that on the return since we are pressed for time in the morning.

JANISJ - BECAUSE MY HUSBAND HAS NO CONCEPT OF TIME AND I ALWAYS OVER SCHEDULE IS. But, considering everyone’s advice, I will train it on the return.

Demi7, yes I like the idea of uber there and train home. It is a lovely town. We played the putting green at St. Andrews, tried Hagis, pastries where Kate and Will met, lovely town!

Here is our trip report from 2019: Edinburgh Trip Report July 2019

Just so you understand --a car won't usually be the fastest option. The train from central Edinburgh to Leuchars takes from 57 mins to 1hr 1 min. Then a taxi to St Andrews is 10 - 15 mins.

Whereas a car from central Edinburgh to St Andrews by car on a weekday morning could take anywhere from 1 hr 20 mins to close to 2 hrs depending on traffic

We leave next Sunday for Glasgow, followed by Edinburgh and plan to travel to St Andrews by train and then taxi or bus on Sunday the 8th. Seems pretty straightforward from what I have read with the buses and taxis easily available at the train station.
