I'll share my bit of knowledge of trains to Oban. I have taken the train twice from Stirling to Oban, changing in Glasgow. Coming from Edinburgh, you'd also change trains in Glasgow. There are only a few trains that run daily to Oban, so you will want to check the schedule, if you haven't already. Also, be careful which car you board in Glasgow, as not all cars go all the way to Oban. Also, the cars to Oban were pretty full the two times that I've made the journey.

To catch a train you will have to go into centrral Edinburgh by bus or taxi.
How "immediately" do you have to get to Oban? Because you will have a bit of a roundabout journey - EDI to Waverly Station in the city, then a bit less than and hour to Glasgow Queen street. Then catch another train for a 3 hour trip out to Oban.
Assuming a 30 - 60 minute wait for each leg you are talking about 6 to 7 hours minimum.

Given the location of Edinburgh airport, I'd be inclined to suggest that you either take the bus direct to Glasgow, to get the train, or perhaps to Stirling which is, at least, in the right direction.
There's definitiely nothing you need worry about.

I can offer the following.
Express train from Edinbugh to Glasgow Queen Street Station every 15 minutes taking about 50 minutes.
From Glasgow Queen street Station to Oban at 8:50, 12:39 and 5:20 taking about 3 hours.
Normally the Oban service is a 4 car train with the front two going to Ft. William and the back two on to Oban. It will be clearly indicated with paper signs in the windows.
