Edinburgh - money exchange ?

Where is a good place to exchange $ for pounds in Edinburgh? Also any great old places for lunch would be appreciated. Thanks.

OK - for the umpteenth time. It is not usually the best to exchange money ANYWHERE. Simply use your ATM card to get the best rates. ATM machines are located all over Edinburgh.

travelers Checks and/or $ currency will cost you a lot more to exchange plus you will have to pay a conversion fee so it is even a worse deal. And a cash advance on a credit card wil also cost more than an ATM withdrawal.

An ATM will only cost you the small fee your own bank charges - mine charges $1 per withdrawal. Some charge as much as $2 or $3. But even then, you get a better exchange rate and less fees.

Use an ATM card

Any high street bank will change your money for you, as long as it's a fairly common currency (you won't be able to change Iraqi Dinars, for example).

One tip: DO make sure the haggis is really dead when it is presented on your plate. There have been several episodes during the last few years where unsuspecting tourists were caught unawares and ended up in hospital.

Hope this is some help.

Cheers, Phil.

Sarah,

You shouldn't make haggis jokes to someone who wants to exchange $ in Edinburgh.

He will believe you.

That wasn't a joke, Ira. It's a serious matter.

So, lunch- Indigo Yard, Martin's in the City, the Marque Central, almost any pub, Viva Mexico, 56 (or 92 or whatever the number is- at the Charlotte Square end of George Street) valvolna and Crolla, Cafe Vittoria...

I could go on.
