Edinburgh- Haggis & fried Mars bars

I'd like to try haggis while we are in Scotland in September. Anyone have opinions on where the best haggis in Edinburgh is to be found? Also, where do we get those famous fried Mars bars?

Is there really a difference between the worst haggis and the best haggis?

What a stupid question.
Is there a difference between the best and worst.bread.sausages,pizza etc.etc.
Why are people so silly about haggis?
It's a kind of sausage, for goodness sake and with better ingredients than many sausages.

The best haggis is usually one made by a small local butcher.
I'm sure that some of the Edinburgh residents will point you in the right direction.
If your hotel does a full Scottish breakfast, it may offer haggis as a choice. Breakfast haggis comes in slices, and you will very likely get just one slice. It will give you a taste of the beast and you can see if you like it.
If you like it, then you can progress to haggis, neeps and tatties.
I love haggis, but confess that I have never tried a deep-fried Mars bar.
Again, I suppose that it's just a sort of fritter when all's said and done

I don't think I've ever eaten the trad haggis, neeps & tatties combo apart from at home, other people's homes or functions. But Crazy4hawaii recently very much enjoyed it at the Last Drop pub in the Grassmarket - see her trip report.

If you like it that way & subsequently fancy trying an upmarket, "modern Scottish" twist, the Stac Polly restaurants do a nice starter of haggis in a filo roll with plum sauce.

I don't know anyone who's ever tried a deep fried Mars bar but some of the fish & chip shops offer it as a novelty on request - I know the one at the top of Broughton Street has a sign saying they do. I think it would be pretty disgusting fried in the same fat as the fish etc.

I've had a deep fried mars bar in Glasgow - it's not that bad really - it is just a fritter after all.

Deep fried pizza is another matter...
