Edinburgh B&B - EDI
Anyone know of an acceptable B&B in Edinburgh that's within an easy drive of the airport? I've got an early flight out of EDI on the 24th and need to find a decently located B&B (while trying to remain reasonably priced <grin>
.
Cheers

Given that it's only about 5 miles from airport to centre of Edinburgh most of the suggestions people have made in the past will be suitable
Personally I'd just find a place that is - depending on your time of travel - on their the airport bus route or the N22

Are you going to have a car? If so, I'd turn it in the evening before and just stay anywhere in Edinburgh near a flybus bus stop. The airporter starts just after 4:00 a.m. - so even if you mean REALLY early the bus will work.
What is your budget - "reasonable" means different things to different folks . . . .

I am not too sure if you will be arriving in Edinburgh and then flying out the following day or going to Edinburgh for a few days before you fly out. Either way I would agree with the others - turn your car in early and stay where you like - however try to remain close to the Airport bus route. It makes things a lot easier on the day of your departure. This can be City Centre - Old Town / New Town or along the Haymarket / Roseburn / Murrayfield / Corstorphine Road corridor as there are stops at these locations for the Airport bus. By doing this it will give you numerous choices in these areas, as to accommodation providers and you can see which suit your budget or you requirements. If you are staying outwith the city centre then remember that you will have the inconvenience of getting other buses to and from the city centre and that can be time consuming as can walking into the city centre. The fare is £1 per person, per journey for the buses into Edinburgh and £3 for the airport bus out to the airport.

My flight leaves out of Edinburgh at 9:10 AM, I think. I would prefer to keep the car since it's going back to the airport anyway, and I'm going to have some bags.
So long as I've checked in online in advance and just need to check bags, how early would you recommend I be at the airport? I'll have the car to return as well. I've never flown in or out of EDI before... always down in London.
I've read that it's very tough to find parking in Edinburgh and that it's better to use public transport getting around. True? Or not as bad as they say? I fly out on the 24th, so I'll probably be in Edinburgh from the 22nd on.
I was also thinking of staying outside the city in terms of finding better quality for the L value. Don't know if that's possible though. My budget is L20 - L35, but I'd prefer to keep it down near L20. I recognize things are probably going to be pricier nearer the city, though.
Kind regards,
Steven

OK - you are going to be in Edinburgh for 2 days at the end of your trip. In this situation - DEFINITELY turn the car in on the 22nd. Use public transport while in Edinburgh and then take the airport bus to EDI. Keeping a car that is useless in the city for three extra days just doesn't make that much sense.
The airport bus is built w/ lugagge space. But even IF you don't want to schlep on the bus, a taxi to EDI will cost a LOT less than 3 days of rental car.
Unfortunately, £20-£30 isn't realistic for Edinburgh. Even a hostel will cost more than £20.
If you want to see Edinburgh - stay IN Edinburgh. And w/ the money you'll save by turning the car in on the 22nd, you can afford to spend more for your rooms.

There's a brand new youth hostel on Leith Walk, quite near the city centre (used to be my old office !). It looks nice and has rooms from singles up to 8-bedders, along en suite. If price were the main consideration, I'd try that above a cheap B&B which may be miles out. http://www.syha.org.uk/SYHA/Web/Site...rghCentral.asp
Janis is right about getting rid of the car before staying in Edinburgh - it will be nothing but a liability. (I don't even have a driving licence !)

I might forego the time in Edinburgh this trip then. I've been there before, it's just been about ten years and I'm running a bit lean budget wise. I will be heading east of Edinburgh for the Museum of Flight. Are there any neat places over on the eastern coast (east of Edinburgh) to spend a day or two?
