Eating in Vienna

Hi, I am anxious about meals in Vienna. We are on a budget and I gather eating at restaurants is expensive. Also we have an 11 year old with us who can be a bit fussy about restaurant food ( it seems that the worst food is expensive and the cheapest (McDonalds etc) is great. I dont want to spend a lot of money on a meal she wont eat. Any suggestions for healthy and cheap?

First, the Beisls offer good and inexpensive food, usually typical regional fare.

Second, there are places where you can get inexpensive and good Sandwiches. The most famous one is Trzesniewski, right at the Graben.

Third, there are fast food places, serving sausages, döner kebap (Turkish), pizza or asian food.

There is a good Turkish restaurant called Kent on the Brunnengasse outside the Ring and a few blocks from the tram line on the Ottakringerstrasse. It has a large eating courtyard, and its mixed grill can't be beat. However, our hosts who lived at the tram stop warned us that the neighborhood was considered Vienna's Harlem. We did not feel unsafe, others might feel otherwise.

We enjoyed a snack/dinner at the Centimeter, which is east of the Westbahnhof, not far from center city. While having otherwise "normal" food, they specialize in a full-meter long wurst, which is quite tasty.

Eating in Vienna is very inexpensive.

You can eat from 1 euro to 100 euros.

There are many places where you can sit down and eat something more cheaply than in McDonalds.

Why not try the Austrian equivalent of fast food -

where you can eat for 5 or 6 euros.

Let the 11 year old starve for a while.
