Earthquake in central Italy
There have been some earthquakes in central Italy tonite. 5.0 Richter magnitude (7.0 Mercalli magnitude). The centre has been around the Appennine areas (high Tuscany to Friuli, including Emilia Romagna and Veneto). No casualties or damages at the moment, but a lot of fear. Just wanted to let you know this...

Thanks guys, I am fine, I live much south (15 miles south of Rome), so I didn't feel any quake, despite also the area where I live is a seismic one, but it has been pretty calm for some years so far. I was just thinking of the fodorites on holiday in the quaked areas... I hope they are fine too.

What a wonder these computers and their technology is!! You have a quake in Italy tonight and I read about it on this site in Canada. I sure hope the news remains good and that the damage is not serious. My 19 year daughter and backpacking companion will be in the area at the end of Oct and early Nov. so I will be watching for updates on the situation. Thank you for the information.

Brimham,
the situation now is normal. After the major quake there have been other aftershocks on minor intensity. In some villages, especially in old houses some parts of buildings fell down (roof tiles, pieces of bricks and pieces of balconies). Some families were forced to leave their houses because they were not safe, but no other worse damages.
