Leaving on 3/23: who else is going?

Hi all,
I love to travel and getting really excited about our trip to Europe coming up (we're leaving to London on 3/23 for two weeks in UK and Italy). But with all the uncertainty and "geopolitical risk" I am getting scared and feel like we're the only crazy ones out there. If you are going to Europe within next 10 days, please respond so that I know there are others who are traveling during these times...

Cheers!
K

We're SUPPOSED to leave for Italy on 4/4 , but becoming increasingly more concerned. You're not crazy, you're informed. I hope we all have a safe journey.

My daughter and I are leaving tomorrow morning (3/18) for a two week visit to Italy. I'm a just a little concerned but I really don't think there will be much of a problem. I'm sure it will be a great experience, regardless of what is going on in the word. Until we are told that it is unsafe to travel, I think the risks are rather small, just be aware of what is going on around you and try to be careful.

We're leaving Monday 3/24 for two weeks in London and Paris. When I booked this trip I thought the war would be in January. It's been fun to watch the time line zero right in on the weekend my trip starts.

I'm leaving for England for 10 days on 3/30, via BritAir from JFK. I booked the trip in January when BritAir had great deals. It was intended to be my semi-annual visit to see my dad -- but now he's in hospital in poor health, so I really have no choice but to go.

I'm trying to focus on what I need to do while I'm there, and looking forward to more signs of Spring in the UK than here in New England. Family needs continue, and take precedence, even when wars and rumors of wars fill the airwaves.

We were in Turkey and Greece in 2001, less than a month after 9/11. We were kindly received everywhere, and were glad we did not cancel (tho it wasn't an easy decision). War is a bit different, of course -- but Iraq is very far from where I'll be. However, if I had family in the military, my thought process would probably be very different.

My mom and I leave 3/23 for London and Paris. I grow increasingly more nervous each day, it sounds like the war will begin at the end of this week.

I also have a NEW concern, which is being on an airplane for 12 hours with re-circulated air and this new deadly virus.

Is something or someone trying to send us a sign to NOT GO?? We are still going, as of today, who knows what will unfold before us in the next few days.

We (family of four) are leaving 3/24 for 2 weeks in England. Yes, we are a little nervous but plan to continue. The only change we might make is the cancellation of our two days in London. In case it is a target and/or the higher concentrations of international travelers (flu travel warning). My husband and I normally would not worry about it, but we decided on being cautious because of our 6 & 8 year olds. *Note, this does not mean I endorse everybody cancelling their London visits, it is just within our own "comfort zone" to do so.* I think all of us will have a wonderful time! I am very excited about it!

I am leaving from San Diego for London On Friday 3/21 with my 11 year old daughter and sister and friend. I am only slightly worried but I don't want to live my life being afraid. Even if war breaks out I don't think we will be in any danger. I feel living in San Diego is a bigger threat with all our military bases and ships here. Although most are deployed right now in the Persian Gulf.

For all of us, who now have to worry about the respiratory virus in addition to terrorism:
It appears that the virus is
1) has been around for a while (since nov'02)
2) not a bio terrorism
3)curable
Check out the following links on further info:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2856163.stm
Also, Wall street journal today had the story on this virus where it said that one of the people infected is being released after 16 days in quarantine
Hope this helps to ease some worries...
K
I am not traveling around 3/23 but would not hesitate to do so. We arrived in Italy on 9/11/01 for a two week trip and we plan to go back this fall. I don't think the probability of a terrorist attack is any greater once the war starts. It's not like the terrorists are sitting around waiting for an excuse to strike. I also don't think that most Muslims are going to shed any tears over Saddam's demise. On the news last night I saw where a number of hard line Muslim clerics came out in support of George Bush.

Going 3/25 to Paris for 2 weeks. Last minute decision about a month ago when the fares from RDU dropped to $282 plus tax. Just couldn't pass up those fares.
