early flight out of Rome - hotel suggestions?

We have a 7am flight out of FCO and are debating options for our last night in Italy. I'd prefer to stay in town our last night and take a taxi, but i understand that will run about 40 euros - is that correct?

Can anyone suggest an alternate option, either something closer to the airport or cheaper way to get there that early? I don't think the train runs until 5:45am, which puts us there a little late.

I'm not that familiar w/Rome yet (still have a little time to plan), but is there an area that puts us any closer to FCO that is still decently close to stuff for the night before?

Many thanks!
Katie

There is a Hilton at the airport. It is expensive but you don't have many options with a 7am flight. we stayed at the Sheraton Roma about 20 minutes from airport with a free shuttle. It was perfect. Problem is the first one is at 7am. I say change your darn flight to a reasonable hour. You are on vacation for petes sake!

We stayed at Hotel Alimandi our last night in Rome. You have to leave much too early to catch their free shuttle (first one leaves at 7 a.m.) but it was only about 20-25 minutes to the airport -- it would be even faster for you at that godforsaken hour. If you stay in Rome that night, book with limoservicerome for a ride to the airport -- 42euros.

This fall we plan to stay at Hotel Cancelli Rossi. It is only a couple of miles from the airport and they have a shuttle (5 Euro charge). It is quite a bit cheaper than the Hilton at 113 Euros.

I,ve been in the same situation many times in Rome. Stay in Rome and take a cab. Do not pass up the opportunity for one more night in Rome! Have someone call a cab for you from the hotel since you can't be sure there will be one at the Taxi stand.

Katie - For early morning flights there is a Cotral Airport Bus from Roma Termini - this is the budget option.

It leaves Piazza dei Cinquecento at 03.50.
Hope this helps ...

Agree with trashtalk (quite a handle).
Enjoy your last night, get up early and expect no early morning traffic.
One way or another you will need to pay to get to the airport. Wait until the last moment to leave.
The airport Hilton does have a shuttle to and from the old town area, but it stops running too early.
