Obviously I don't expect to be going swimming, but is there a good chance of decent sightseeing weather?

You can go to the lakes, it might be a bit chilly, but you might find some nice weather. I would reccommend it.

Many places are closed until 15 April.<BR>I think that is a bit early, and I have been there twice in mid-April.

This year Easter came early, so many of the hotels were open in early April. A very few hotels remain open all year (e.g. Regina Palace in Stresa; Grand Hotel Victoria in Menaggio)

We were at the Lago di Garda this past April. After driving through heavy snowsnorms in Germany and Austria, we arrived in Italy to beautiful, warm weather. Temps were in the mid 70s then.

Italian lakes in April are alot like Swiss lakes in April. Bring your rain jacket, fleece and umbrella. Of course, there are always a few stellar days thrown into that period...its just a crapshot as to weather you will get one (pun intended). I can live with chilly, but I don't like the sound of low clouds/no views.

I was there in early to mid April a few years back & it was gorgeous! A fair bit cooler than Tuscany wihout being cold & the snow capped mountain scenery was divine - I'm not sure if I was just lucky?
