Early am flight from Venice--how to get there?
I have a 6:55 am Air France flight from Venice Marco Polo airport on a Saturday. When do I need to arrive at the airport to make my flight? And how can I get there at that time of day? I will be staying in Dorsoduro. I think the earliest I can get there with public transport is 5:05 am. Is that too late??

The last time we flew out very early on Delta/Alitalia, the counter did not open until 5:30 am.
Marco Polo is a small airport and everything is very close together. Getting there shortly after 5 for a 6:55 flight should pose no problems.

You can take the bus from P. Roma directly to the airport. Buses take 20 minutes. If you take the 5:00am bus you will be fine.
Depending on where you are staying you may be able to walk to P. Roma. If not, take the vaporetto. If you are staying at a hotel you can ask them about the best way to get to P. Roma.

Thanks to all for your good advice. Now it turns out that while my friends are leaving at 6:55 my flight will leave at 6:25 am (problems booking with miles) so I'll have to decide between the early bus or a land taxi. We can walk to P. Roma (zoecat, we'll be staying at Ca Zucchero). Anyway, thanks for helping me know what the options are.

EastBayer,
I took the 5:00 bus from P. Roma to the airport, arriving at 5:20, for a 6:25 flight and had plenty of time to check in and even grab a bite to eat. In fact, I think I was the first person at the check-in counter that morning. No line at security.
The bus drops you right outside the door to the check-in counters. You can't get lost- step off the bus and just walk 50 feet straight ahead. You should be okay.
Enjoy!

zoecat, thanks for your reassurance. I was prepared to take my chances, but I was wondering if that was unwise. (I also tell people that an hour is enough time at the Marseille airport but it's hard to believe it until you've been there.) Of course, the days when you could bang on the closed departure gate door and have them open it and let you on the plane are no more.
