I've stayed in Earl's Court a couple of times now and have been very happy with the area. It's not fancy but I've never fealt unsafe and I have found one or two fun places to eat. Also the Earl's Court Tube station has two lines with one direct from Heathrow and a line that runs thru to Victoria Stantion and Westminster. I would stay in the area again.
Rick

My sister and I stayed in Earl's Court in May. I would not recomment our hotel --the Quality Hotel Kensington, but the area was okay for the most part. It is very convenient for tube connections. One word of caution, my sister got her wallet stolen by a pickpocket, but that can happen anywhere in London.

I stayed in the Earl's court area last year and will be staying there again in Feb. I found a pretty decent hotel (Barkston Gardens) that is relatively close to the tube station. Like an earlier post, not an overly pretty area but feeling unsafe was never a factor.

Hm. The Norwegian crown prince just moved there, causing Norwegian gossip magazines to report that the area is super posh, whereas the British gossip papers were all shocked that a royal would live in such a criminal and shabby area...just don't which one to trust the least

Earls Court is not dangerous. It is mainly an area of inexpensive B&Bs and hotels. But there is really no reason to stay there - you can find places just as nice (or much nicer) in the same price ranges in several better neighborhoods. Around Victoria are similar budget places, but in a MUCH more convenient area - walking distance to the River, B'ham Palace, Tate Britain, a mainline train station and really good tube connections.

Parts of Bloomsbury/Russell Square are good for budget accomodations and you are walking distance to Covent Garden, The British Museum, etc.

So, there is nothing WRONG w/ Earls Court, but there are many better places.

I didn't like Earl's Court area at all, and the one time I stayed there the hotel was gross - quite a few years ago. I didn't feel entirely safe there - thought it was kind of a fringe area. I think there are many other neighborhoods in London I would prefer to be in. Stayed in South Kensington on our last visit, for example, and were much happier there.

We stayed in the Earl's Court area, two weeks ago, and thought it was just fine. Our hotel - Country Inn & Suites on Cromwell Rd. wasn't budget at 85 GBP, but a very nice hotel and a good value. We were a 5 min walk to the EC tube sta., and never felt unsafe, regardless of the hour.
We also found some nice restaurants in the area.
We will return there.

It's known locally as "kangaroo valley" because of the number of Austrailians who live there. It has a lot of young traveller type accommodation, and cheap b&bs/hostels etc.

Its as safe as anywhere else in London (ie pretty safe). Not much to see, but plenty of bars and restaurants etc. Not overly pretty either.

Its also a major tube junction so it's well connected for transport.

So if you can get a good price...
