Just wondering if anyone has applied for an E111 recently?

I've just discovered that the system's changed again, and my form - which I only renewed last year - is no longer valid.

If you have applied recently - did you have a long wait? Is it possible to apply online to speed things up?

You now need European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which you can apply online at http://www.dh.gov.uk/PolicyAndGuidan...amp;chk=Q14Cn7
I've got mine recently and it's credit card sized with your details on.

You should have automatically received your EHIC before the end of December but I didn't either. It takes about 7 days when you apply for it online.

We got the new cards last year, Steve.It took a couple of weeks.

They've sent it to everyone here 2 years ago, didn't need to ask for it. I just don't know if there are still european countries left that explicitly demand a E111??

I applied on-line late Monday, my request was confirmed by e-mail next day and I received my card in the post by Friday.

I didn't the card I expected to come automatically, but the online application produced a card in two days.

Thanks for the link! I just noticed there actually is an expiry date on on the card. Never thought about this. Mine expired in January 06 after 3 years...

Blackduff, are you saying you're not a UK resident? This is a recipricol health care arrangement for EU residents visiting other EU countries (and Switzerland). If you're resident outside the UK, then you can't apply via the UK. Does that make sense?

Actually, what I want to determine. I have a friend (British citizenship) but currently in the US. He can use an address in France, for convience, if it's possible. I'm not sure if he currently has an address in the UK.

Personally, I'm happy to be within the French system.

You can check the link that Alex gave - it gives details of who qualifies. I 'think' you need to be a resident, but don't take my word for it!

Blackduff, your friend would need a UK national insurance number anyway, but I think they also have to be "ordinarily resident" in the UK. If they're working in the US, they probably won't be entitled to an EHIC until they're back living and working in the UK. They would be best advised to read the Health Advice for Travellers information at the link above, and then contact the relevant people directly.
