Dumb question X2

We are leaving from london next week. My first dumb question is - I have money left over from when I visited Scotland last fall. They appear to be multiples of pounds but has Scotland on them as opposed to Britian. Are they the same? And my second dumb question is - I am staying at the Radisson Vanderbuilt Hotel. Can I walk there from Victoria Station, and if not, what tube do I take from Victoria Station. I have one wheeled carry on. Thanks.

You can walk but it's going to be several miles! Take the circle line to Gloucester Station. It's right across the street. You will like the Vanderbilt. I had tea there day before yesterday!

Hi
Scottish pounds are accepted one-for-one in England and Wales. Scotland is part of the UK.

Great Britain, alas, no longer exists.

Was that an error on your part, Ira, or a political comment?

My passport says I'm a citizen on the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Hi Sheila,
I guess the smart thing to say would be it was a political comment but, alas, it was an error.
I was thinking of the UK as being, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Thanks for the correction.

While scottish currency "should" be accepted in England, you may find some smaller shopkeepers unwilling to accept them. This has nothing to do with anti-scottishness, but more to do with some shopkeepers being unfamiliar with the notes, and so unclear on the legality. Also they're wary of forgeries - they don't see Scottish notes very often so can't spot a dud. Larger shops and chains will accept them, but if in doubt, you can walk into any bank and they will swop them for free for English notes.

Thanks everyone for your help. I really don't want to walk several miles after a transatlantic flight, so now I know what I need to do. I thought that I could use the money in England, but Ireland has its own currency so I wasn't really positive. I've never spent much time in London before, just a breeze through on the way to somewhere else. I'm looking forward to seeing the sights and spending a few days.
