Doing a milage run to Dublin in December for 5 nights. May have to see some relatives, but any suggestions for Lunch, dinner, sights?

Im glad you posted! Ill be noting with interest all suggestions. We have booked a night in Malahide at Castle Lodge B and B and will be in Dublin for two evenings and half a day..Feb 2014
I have just read that a lot of the food..especially breakfasts at B and Bs are laden with fat...and we'd love to quickly find restaurants /cafes which offer good healthy alternatives without being totally vegetarian

Best chowda on the planet is at Ryan's FXB Grills. That might be an exaggeration, but I kissed the Blarney Stone so I can say anything. Go to the castle outside Cork if you have the time.

Guinness Storehouse in Dublin is a good visit, topped off by a pint at the top.

Looks like we have to discover Dublin on our own. Not much interested in kissing the Bkarney Stone, not at this point in life,

Dublin..Guiness!! Lots of woolie/fleece layers, gloves, toques, scarves!!! We had a great lunch at the "Bank" restaurant.(think that's the name) acroos from the PO. Soda bread for bkfst isn't fat loaded and the bacon you can skip..Mushrooms not fat loaded. Eggs will be ok..there should be menus for choices..Trad brkfst is very prevalant however in B&Bs. What's a mileage run???

"What's a mileage run???" Need the miles by the end of the year to keep my premium status with US Airways. The airfare was reasonable and the triple qualifying miles they offered wasn't a bad deal.

Dublin is a charming city - even in winter - which isn;t really very cold (compared to northern US) - more chilly and damp - but need at least a medium weight jacket.

Agree full bkfsts are fatal but there are a lot of other options most hotels.

Local food that is great - salmon 9regulr and smoked), dublin bat prawns, brown bread, sandwiches with salad (lettuces and tomats with whatever you order).

Do look for theater - esp someone local if you can find Shaw or Wilde

Stayed at Pembroke House in Ballsbridge, nice walk to center. HOHO bus..overview of area, high tea at Shelbourne (one's big enough for two but ask first in case the portions have changed. Rapid train to Howath. good seafood there. Mileage run? great plan Robert and great destination. Bring umbrella and layers to add or shed..DAMP, DAMP, DAMP!!!

Lot of fresh food markets and if you love cheese I always do a cheese platter with fruit. I could eat seafood chowder everyday and and you can opt for Irish oatmeal for breakfast with fruit. Check out music and shows that time of year. Should be lots on. I love going to Howth, a quick train ride north of Dublin, you will taste some of the best seafood there.
If all else fails go to Marks and Spencer on Grafton and so take away from their grocery store.
