Dublin Hilton Kilmainham open yet?
Need help from a Dubliner please! We leave next Thursday for Dublin and have confirmed reservations at the Dublin Hilton Kilmainham for our first 2 nights.
The opening date has changed several times. The website still shows that the hotel is "scheduled to open in May", not that it is open. I sent them an email that was returned undeliverable. I called the main 800 number for Hilton and they said no worries, it opened on May 15th. I'm still worried. Does anyone in Dublin know if it really is open?
Also, is Heuston Station within walking distance with luggage if we take the Airlink or is there closer airport transportation. The website says "cab for $30" with no other options provided. Thanks in advance for putting my mind at ease.

Yes it opens May 21st. Heuston St is not within walking distance so your best option with luggage is a taxi. There is a taxi rank outside Heuston St. It's not that far and shouldn't cost more than €20. There is probably buses going from near the hotel to the city center, ask reception for details.

The hitlon is about a good 20 minute walk from Heuston with bags!! So a taxi is your best bet. But if you pay anything over 10 euro for the ride then you are being ripped off!!!! As I said it is only a good 20 minute walk away with bags and is a very direct sub 10 minute taxi ride. You may be better exiting Heuston by the side entrance and crossing the road to get your taxi (the side of the road that has a big yellow building, which is a health department of somw sort). This is because if you get the taxi from the main taxi rank (which is also out the side entrance), with Dublin's one way system the taxi will need to go into the city and cross one of the bridges over the liffey to come back out towards Kilmainham! If you let a taxi driver do this and he knows you are a tourist I would imagine that you will get an unwanted tour of Dublin to add to your taxi bill.
Sorry long winded, but I hate seeing people getting ripped off by taxi fares. Happened to me once to often abroad!
Best of luck and enjoy your trip!

Thanks all. Wonderful news and great information. Appreciate the info on the one-way system impacting the cab fare.
Given that the distance from the Heuston Station to the hotel requires a cab, would we just be better off just taking a cab from the airport if it truly is only $30 as the Hilton site states? Our flight arrives on Friday May 25th at about 9AM. Thanks..

Just take a taxi from the airport its too much hassle and may not save you that much with the bus and taxi. Its about 30 but no one can guarantee as if there is traffic depending on when you arrive it could be more if you are stuck. Is it worthy the hassle to save 10 euro when you are jet lagged.
ALso I find I rarely get a dodgy driver here. I have been ripped off many times when living in Bostoin and NY its not common here and the drivers are usuallky nice old guys in the business for years. Got in a taxi when I gave up on waiting for the bus today and had only a 50 euro note and coins in change. He said no worries give me what ever change you have...what other city would that happen in???
