dublin experts--advice please
It started out as a solo trip, centered around my writing project based in County Clare. Now it's grown inexplicably into a threesome and this means Dublin.. After six or seven days in the West. The added travel companions include a well traveled bachelor (the perfect word for him even if it's old-fashioned) and a very dear woman friend who's never been to Ireland. She has Parkinsons -- she can walk but tires easily.
So, now the question about Dublin: based on only a little experience of Dublin, and a lot of scanning of this list, we think we'd like to stay in the Ballsbridge area. We'll be there three nights. There's availability on our dates at two places that look good: Glenogra and Waterloo. I've seen Glenogra mentioned here but never Waterloo. Does anyone have comments?
How far is the walk to bus or DART?
I know a few other questions will be coming up, but I can't think of them just now,
Thanks,
Barbara

I've never been to either, but have had a look on the website to see where they are located in case I could add something.
Neither is bang in the heart of Ballsbridge, both are a 10 minute (+) walk to Ballsbridge village. Waterloo is closer to town and more central.
For me, Waterloo would be the better location because you can walk back from the city centre in the evenings. However this is a good 15-20 minute walk and is probably too much for your friend with Parkinsons.
Waterloo is just beside a number of pubs, cafes and shops while Glenogra is slightly more suburban.
Both are close to good bus routes. Waterloo has a marginally better choice of bus routes, being close to two main arteries, Leeson St and Baggot St. There are numerous bus stops on Waterloo Road. Glenogra seems to be right across the road from the bus stop on a well served route.
Glenogra is probably closer to the DART (10 mins) than Waterloo but for both the bus would be the best way of getting into town.
Most buses stop around 11:30 at night so if you are coming back from town after that you will need a taxi.

Marilynn you are not supposed to advertise on this board. Some people have rental places but they do not blatently advertise for themselves at every post. It's nothing personal.
OK Glengora is on Merrion road and will have busses going by frequently. Waterloo is on a quieter street and more picturesque and around the corner from the bus as well. Neither are a quick walk to the dart so I would stick with a bus or taxi.

Thank you all for these replies, I get the picture much better now. Waterloo sounds preferable from the information you have given. But I'm also thinking it might make more sense for us to spend more to be more centrally located.
(and Siobhan, yes, I too was getting weary of certain insistent and repetitive messages, thanks for mentioning it.)
