Driving Time - Florence to Pienza

We are planning to pick up a rental car in Florence on a Saturday morning mid-Sept. to drive to our rental apt. in Montichiello, near Pienza. How long a drive is it, time-wise, and where might be a good place to stop for a leisurely lunch along the way?

That depends. If you take the Autostrada directly to Montichiello and do not get lost, then the ride should take around 90 minutes.

However, my preference would be to take the more scenic roads which could take all day depending on how often you stop.

A lovely drive from Florence would be to take the S222 (Chiantigiana) south through the Chianti countryside which is dotted with vineyard after vineyard and cute town after charming town. There are numerous towns to stop--Greve, Radda, Castellina are just three that come to mind.
