Driving itinerary, Lyon to Zermatt and Interlaken, suggestions needed!!

We arer travelling through Europe in Sept and am planning to hire a car in Lyon and then travel to Zermatt and Interlaken. I have looked through maps and a thinking this could be a possible route for us ... drive time is supposed to be around 4 hours, but we thought we might take a couple of days.
Leave Lyon, and head to Zermatt, driving through... Geneva / Lausanne, and then onto Martigny, Sion and Sierre, finishing in Zermatt where we will stay for a couple of days. We will then head to Interlaken and base ourselves there for a few days and do some side trips to Lucerne, Grindelwald and of course the Jungfrau railway.
Any thoughts?

Geneva/Lausanne: it´s fine if you stay on the motorway, but the cities are anything but car-friendly if you choose to visit them.
Zermatt: you do know that you cannot drive there, right?

Quite frankly, it would have been nice if you had SAID you have been to Zermatt before and that you love it there...makes the possibility of alternative suggestions easier.

I apologize if this seems harsh but the more we know about what you like and don;t like and WHY makes things a lot simpler.

Hi LC,

Have you checked the costs of picking up in France and dropping off in CH? Thay can be quite high.

If you use viamichelin.com you can try various modifications of the route and get the driving times. If it were me and I had the time I would go from Geneva to Maritgny via Chamonix rather than Lausanne.
