If you look at the Hertz address on Via del Sansovino on Google's Streetview, you'll see there is street parking outside the office but no adjacent parking lot. I think the best you could do is ask what the parking limits are on the side street outside their office. And, even if the limits/restrictions are OK, there's no guarantee a space would be available when you arrive.

Thank you all of you for valuable suggestions. We'll wait and see what type of car exactly we will get in Venice and based on that we'll either take one or both suitcases to the train station or leave our car at the Hertz location if they allow us (or the parking lot if it looks secure and have a guard). Maybe we can even consider not stopping in Florence and do a day trip from Monetpulciano later on. Decisions decisions

>>>I was wondering if they would allow us to park in the Hertz office near Sansovino station.<<<

I've read there is some free parking around the Sansovino tram stop, but there is a paid lot that is reasonable.

**The closest parking lot to Florence along the tram can be found on Via del Sansovino, with the "Sansovino" tram stop right in front. This is a paid parking lot but a better deal that the ones closer to the center. It is open 24 hours a day and costs 1 euro for the first hour, 0.50 euro every 30 minutes after. Maximum daily rate is 12 euro. (Via del Sansovino 53).**

Another thought: take the train to Florence, leave your bags at the station Deposito Bagagli, tour Florence, go back to the station for the bags, pick up a rental car either near the station or out at the airport. So you'd be changing your car rental reservation to pick up the car in Florence instead of Venice.

Bringing this up in the hopes flieder will see it and tell us how things worked out. Did you park at Sansovino? If so, how was it?
Thanks.

Well if it's not too late. We did exactly what Mimar suggests. Although we stayed in Florence a few nights. We took the train from Venice to Florence and picked up the car on our way out of Florence. We drove through Chianti and down to Chianciano Terme (right next to Montepulciano). And that is all the driving we'd want for one day. Of course we did stop for wine tasting...
