Driving from Split to Dubrovnik
Dear All!!
We're planning to have summer off in Croatia for whole September.
As the finale of our trip, we'll move from Split to Dubrovnik, after calling by Trogir, Hvar, Primosten.
As far as we see the posts here, almost everybody moves from Split to Dubrovnik,
but is there anyone who has driven car to Dubrovnik?
We're especially wondering if there is problem in passing by rental car Herzegovina territory on the way even it is only 10 km.
Your advices would be appreciated!

We had a car for 3 weeks in Aug/Sept last year to travel throughout Slovenia and Croatia. We spent a few nights in Trogir (used that as a base to visit Split) then put the car on a ferry to Hvar. From there we drove the length of the island (time consuming and windy road so allow time to do that) to the ferry terminal and took that to (can't remember the town - but toward to Dubrovnik - not back to Split so some distance cut off). There are ferries straight to Dub but it is a long trip. We opted for the drive which was lovely. We worried about passing through Bosnia but it was a non-event. The guidebooks indicate you need a visa, could get delayed, etc. but they must be out of date. And FYI - We wanted to do a day trip to Montenegro but none of the rental car companies allow you to take their cars there so we hired a driver/guide for the day. Have fun.

Hello!
I just checked with AutoEurope to see if our contract allowed us to drive into Montenegro (we're picking up a car in Dubrovnik and leaving it off in Split) and the answer was yes! The agent just added a notation on the contract that we'll be traveling to Montenegro.
Hope that this helps!

Driving from Split to Dubrovnik is easy as it is a nice highway mostly along the coast. One lane each way for an area outside of Split which makes for slow going behind tankers, trucks etc but after you clear that area the drive is quite pleasant.

Hello Cigdem,
A great way to travel from Split to Dubrovnik, is to use the Island of Hvar as a stepping stone. Take the car ferry from Split to Stari Grad, stay in Hvar town for a few days, then drive to the east coast of the Island, and take a short ferry ride from Sucaraj to Drevnik on the mainland. Drive south to Dubrovnik, and get rid of the car. By the way, don't worry about traveling the short distance through Bosnia; like any border checkpoint, they'll take a look at your passport and let you continue. Those 12kms. though, are quite a contrast to idyllic Croatia.

We rented a car in Split last year and drove down to Dubrovnik and back last September. No problems entering into Bosnia, you do need to slow down and possibly stop at the border entering and leaving. Do be careful as we did see police in Bosnia stop speeders.
Overall the drive is long, up and down mountains, one lane generally and when stuck behind several trucks and buses, can be frustrating. Just enjoy the view (not you driver, the passengers).

First of all,
Thank you all so much for your kind advices!
Now we're very relieved and opted for driving by ourselves instead of taking a bus.
Thanks to information from cavergirl and LAZnSTEVEgo2HR, we'll try the route to call for Sucuraj positioning at east end of Hvar island.
Can anyone tell us which ferry lines go from Sucuraj? Do ferries go to Dubrovnik on daily basis?
Thanks!!!

Can you actually take a car IN to Dubrovnik? (I heard it is a pedestrian-only city). Where is most of the accommodation? In the city, or outside it - where there is parking?
If required to park outside the city, are there safe & secure carparks?

Check schedules for Sucuraj-Drenvik at
http://www.jadrolinija.hr/.
There is a lot more to Dubrovnik than the pedestrian-only old town. You will likely be staying outside old town, so when you make accomodations you can ask about parking.
